Career Profile of a Music Critic (Ryuichi Shibata)

Tower Record Review     (Tower Record Shibuya: Nana Sasaki)
At the concert held in February of this year to celebrate 400 years of relations between Japan and Spain, a number of songs from both Granados and Falla were recorded under a general theme of “dance.” First off, the sound of the music and its captivating feel, as if you were truly in a concert hall yourself, is wonderful. This level of passion matches beautifully with Spanish music and is quite exciting! One can see just how fully the musical score has been used, with its stresses, pedaling, and more. The music creates an indescribable atmosphere as if some magical scent were in the air. In addition, I think it’s also worth noting that Falla’s “Fantasía Bética” and Granados’s “Concert Allegro”, two tracks that aren’t often found recorded, are both included.

Music Critic From Magazine "Musica Nova"
A female pianist who graduated from Kunitachi College of Music and Ecole Normale Superieure, Ms. Natsuko Hosokawa performed following program. "Piano Sonata in D major" K311 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, "Serenade" by Franz Schubert=Franz Liszt, "Consolation No. 3" and "Polonaise No. 2" by Franz Liszt, (break) "Gnossienne No.1, No.2, No.3" by Erik Satie, "Andalucian Fantasy" by Manuel de Falla, Suite Espanola "Malaguena" by Isaac Albeniz, Danza Espanola "Andaluza" and "Allegro de Concerto" by Enrique Granados.
I certainly did enjoy Ms. Hosokawa’s remarkable sense of music and such originality in Spanish series of the program. Generally speaking, a moment of “self-expression” happens when musician performs better than its original masterpiece. Ms. Hosokawa “self-expressed” with her performance in the ultimate state today. She first analyzed the music components (e.g. the balance of style, rhythm, harmony, tone, volume, spiritual background of further work, etc.), and re-arranged them, then reconstructed it into her creativity. It made me feel like I witnessed a pianist who transformed the original piece and incorporated it into her “self-expression”. During her performance, I felt nostalgia in "Polonaise" of Franz Liszt that sounded the true spirit of imposing by rhythm and style. In the entire set of Spanish music performance was delivered not only as a musical expression or tempo but yielded me into the illusion as if I lived in the cultural and historical customs and traditions.

Concert reviews Magazine Musica Nova critic
(by Tetsuro Ishikawa, pianist, former teacher at Musashino Academia Musicae and critic)
From Musica Nova, a piano magazine published by Ongaku no Tomosha.

The program of this musician, a graduate of  the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, was the following.
Mozart (Sonata in D major) K311, followed by Schubert-Liszt's "Serenade".
Liszt "Consolation No. 3" and "Polonaise No. 2". After the intermission, Satie presents the "Gnoschennes n° 1, 2 and 3".
Falla's "Andalusian Fantasy", "Malagueña" from Albéniz' "España" suite and "Andaluza" from Granados' "Spanish Dances".
by Granados.
The marvelous character of his unique musical universe, especially in the programs after Liszt.
I was able to appreciate the wonderfulness of his unique musical world, especially in the programs after Liszt. Generally speaking, the moment when a performer's personal expression is realized in a performance is the moment when he or she has a performance is the moment when he feels that another person's work is his own.
In general, the moment a player achieves self-expression in a performance is the moment he or she feels that another person's work is their own.
In her performance that day, I felt that she had reached an even higher level of "self-expression."
I felt that in her performance on that occasion, she had reached an even higher level of "self-expression.
(style, rhythm, harmony, timbre, volume balance, spiritual context of the work, etc.)
Then I reconstructed them with clear musical awareness, and made a "Web of Time" out of them.
The work was a work of "pure" music, which should have been a work of art. There was a "pure" sound world, which should be a work of art, and a very "pure" sound world, which should be a work of art.
I had the impression of observing a pianist who had "created"
(by expressing himself in a way that did not dissolve the self)
the "pure" sound world that should be there as a work of art.
Liszt's polonaise is a true polonaise of majestic spirit, in terms of tempo and style.
In a series of Spanish music, it is not only the expression of the musical or rhythmic perfection, but also of the passion and melancholy of "that thing" that flows in the background.
The expression of the melancholic "mood" in the background gave me the illusion that I was being shown theand historical traditions of the country.
